
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) crushed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a thrilling IPL encounter at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. From match-winning performances to standout moments, here are the top 10 things you need to know about RCB’s emphatic victory over CSK.
1. RCB’s Patidar plays captain’s knock

RCB captain Rajat Patidar scored his first fifty as RCB captain. He scored 51(32), helping RCB put up a total of 196/7. Phil Salt and Devdutt Padikkal scored lightning fast 32(16) and 27(14), respecitvley, while Virat Kohli played role of an anchor, scoring 27(14). Tim David had the best strike-rate among RCB batters, scoring 22*(8).
2. CSK’s batting collapse against RCB
CSK did not settle at all throughout their innings. Four of their top five batters were dismissed without being able to score in double digits. They were 99/7 when MS Dhoni came to bat. CSK were restricted to 146/8 by RCB.
3. Dhoni too late? Advantage RCB

MS Dhoni came to bat at number nine. It was for the second time in his IPL career that he batted at the number nine position. Several critics and experts have lashed out at CSK over Dhoni’s batting number in the match against RCB. Even the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin batted before Dhoni. When Dhoni came to bat, CSK needed 98 runs to win off 28 balls. Dhoni scored at an electric pace, however, it was too late.
4. 17-year jinx broken, RCB rejoice
RCB defeated CSK by 50 runs in the match. It is RCB’s first victory against CSK in Chennai since 2008. Further, the 50-run win is also CSK’s biggest defeat at their primary home ground.
5. 8-match losing streak ends for RCB
RCB’s losing streak against CSK at Chepauk, which ended on Friday, was the longest run of defeats by any team against a single opponent at one venue in IPL history.
6. Thala overtakes Chinna Thala
MS Dhoni overtook Suresh Raina as the highest-ever run-getter for CSK in the history of IPL. Fondly known as Thala, Dhoni has now scored 4,699 runs for CSK in IPL. Suresh Raina or Chinna Thala had scored 4,687 runs for CSK in IPL.
7. Jaddu’s double
Ravindra Jadeja, the ever-green CSK all-rounder, created history by becoming the first-ever all-rounder to do a double of 3,000 runs and 100 wickets in the IPL. Jadeja has scored 3,001 runs in 186 IPL innings, while he has taken 160 wickets in 213 innings.
8. RCB pacers on fire
RCB pacers were on fire against CSK. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood and Yash Dayal collectively registered figures of 10-0-59-6. They took wickets at an average ofe 9.83, which is the best average for fast bowlers from any team in an IPL match against CSK at the Chepauk Stadium.
9. Two in a row for RCB
RCB have won two matches in a row. This is the third time that RCB have started an IPL season with successive victories. Prior to the 2025 season, they had won back-to-back matces in IPL 2014. In IPL 2021, they recorded their best ever start to an IPL season, winning four matches in a row.

The Southern Derby as it is called didn’t live up to the expectations. The match didn’t have many ups and downs. Once RCB took the command with a near-200 total, CSK didn’t have many answers. CSK’s top-order was out of form. Dhoni coming to bat at number nine was a big disappointment. A tough fight from CSK and good tactical decisions would have made the match 9.5/10 from 7/10.
