Radhika Yadav, a 25-year-old tennis player from Haryana’s Gurugram, was killed by her own father. Let’s delve into the details:
1. THE CRIME

Radhika Yadav, 25-year-old national-level tennis player, was shot dead by her 45-year-old father Deepak Yadav at their home in Sector 57, Gurugram. Radhika was hit by 4 bullets out of the at least 5 shots fired by her father. Her mother was also present at home during the time, but she was on another floor of the house. It is reported that she mistook the gunshots for pressure cooker blast. Her uncle said they found Radhika lying in a pool of blood. He rushed her to a hospital, but tragically, she was declared dead on arrival.
2. FATHER’S CONFESSION

Deepak Yadav has confessed that he killed her daughter as he was humiliated because of people’s taunts about living off his daughter’s income. After killing Radhika, Deepak told his brother,
“Bhai mujhse kanya vadh ho gaya hai.”
Deepak’s brother said that Deepak was hurting, sad, repentant and ashamed.
Further, he asked police write his statement and FIR in such a manner that he is hanged. Deepak also told police that he has committed Kanya Vadha (slaughter of his daughter).
3. INTER-CASTE LOVE LED TO MURDER?

Earlier, it was being reported that Radhika’s inter-caste love might be the reason for the murder. One of Radhika’s neighbours claimed that she wanted to marry someone outside her caste but her father wanted her to marry in the same caste. The neighbour also said that Deepak was old school and conservative. However, her uncle has denied the claim, saying their family would not have opposed inter-caste marriage. He said, “Our family is not illiterate… that we would be against an inter-caste marriage. If there was anything like that… it would have been sorted at the village-level.”
4. RADHIKA’S BEST FRIEND’S REVELATIONS

Radhika’s friend Himaanshika Sing Rajput has claimed that Deepak was jealous of his daughter’s success and had planned her murder three days in advance. In an Instagram post, the friend wrote,
He’d made her life miserable for years with his controlling, constant criticism. In the end, he listened to so-called friends who were jealous of her success…I’ve come to know that he had been struggling with his mental health, but no amount of struggle can justify what he did.”
She also alleged that Radhika had been suffering for the last 10 days before being killed by her father. Himaanshika said that Radhika had told her father that she was willing to do whatever he says.
5. SHAMED FOR WEARING SHORTS
Himaanshika accused Radhika’s father of controlling behaviour. She alleged that Radhika’s parents shamed her for her clothing choices and friendships. “They couldn’t stand to see her independent. They shamed her for wearing shorts, for talking to boys, for living life on her own terms,” the friend claimed.
“She had to justify every move. Even on video calls, she had to show her parents who she was speaking to. She often pointed the camera towards me to prove it was just us. She couldn’t be late even if her tennis academy were only 50 meters away from their residence,” Himaanshika added.
6. RADHIKA’S BROTHER’S COUNTER STATEMENT

Radhika’s brother Rohit Yadav has reacted to allegations made by Radhika’s best friend. He said that the allegations are baseless. Rohit said that their father spent a lot of amount to send to Radhika to countries to play tennis. “Whatever has happened is only known to Radhika and Deepak,” he stated.
7. MUSIC VIDEO WITH INAAM UL HAQ

Radhika featured in a music video named ‘Karwaan‘ with Inaam Ul Haq. Deepak was apparently unhappy with Radhika featuring in the video and had asked her to get the video deleted from YouTube. Several people also speculated religion angle into the murder. However, Inaam issued statement to clarify the matter.
He revealed that Radhika’s mother visited the shooting of the music video. He added that Radhika also mentioned that her father also liked the video. “It means she took permission from her father,” Inaam said. Inaam also clarified that he and Radhika never met after finishing the project.
When ‘Karwaan’ became viral after Radhika’s death, people claimed Inaam would earn because of what happened to Radhika. However, he has now issued a statement, saying that every single penny earned from the music video will be sent to charity.

8. RADHIKA’S INSTA DELETED BEFORE MURDER

Radhika’s social media accounts, including her Instagram, were deleted days before her murder.
Radhika had suffered a shoulder injury a year ago and, thereafter, she had thought of changing career paths. She decided to become a social media influencer and later started training tennis players. She used to make reels of her tennis sessions.
It is claimed that people from her father’s village taunted him about Radhika making videos with male tennis players. It was also reported that she deleted her Instagram account after frequent arguments over the issue at home.
Radhika’s friend said,
She loved making videos, taking photographs. But she gradually stopped. Her parents didn’t like her being independent.”
9. GURUGRAM POLICE CLOSE RADHIKA YADAV’s MURDER CASE

Gurugram Police closed the investigation into 25-year-old tennis player Radhika Yadav’s murder. The police calling it an “open and shut” case. They said a charge sheet was being filed based on strong forensic and testimonial evidence. The decision comes after Radhika’s best friend Himaanshika Singh Rajput made revelations about Radhika’s family life in the days before her death.

Reacting to the Radhika’s murder, Olympic gold medal-winning javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra sai, “In families, you should support each other, and those (women athletes) who are doing well should be idolised and followed.”
The Great Khali, who featured in WWE, said, “This is an unfortunate incident that a man killed his own daughter. How will we work towards our motto of ‘beti abchao beti padhao’ if we go on killing our daughters? We cannot become a vishwaguru till we support our daughters. Even I have a daughter. Daughters are no less than sons, and it is all a matter of mentality, which some people still need to change… Everyone should support their daughters and motivate them to pursue sports.”
